June 17th - June 21st

Pottery Wheel  Adventure with Ms. Gretchen

10:30AM - 12:30PM :: 2 spaces open | Ages 8+

 OR 1:00 - 3:00PM  :: 4 spaces open | Ages 8+

$100 + $25 material fee | Camp participants: Minimum 5. Maximum 6

Get your hands into wheel throwing! Campers of all skill levels welcome. The class will cover wedging, centering, pulling, trimming, use of tools and surface techniques. Campers should wear old clothes because work on the potter's wheel can get messy (wah-hoo!). If you have taken this camp with Ms. Gretchen or Ms Wendy...come back and get on the wheel again and practice! The wheel is like life...it is not about the destination, but the journey. Please remember that finished work will need to dry and then go through the firing process. Allow 10 days from the last day of camp for picking up work, thank you. Day 1: Let's get centered. Before we begin to whirl around,  we will learn the history of the potter's wheel + learn to recognize when clay is centered. Day 2: Continue the journey on the wheel making a summer time snack bowl. Day 3: Campers will learn the techniques to trim the bottoms of their bowls. Day 4: Campers learn how to pull clay on the wheel to achieve height from their work. Day 5: Glaze our bowls + have a painting party on our last day of camp.

Baking Camp with Ms Barbara

10:30AM - 12:45PM  ::  7 spaces open |  Ages 8+

$105 + $25 material fee | Minimum 5

Pack a lunch and plan to come to pottery wheel in the afternoon.

Baking is about chemistry.  Precise measuring and attention to detail determines the outcome of your baking.  If the eggs aren't separated properly,  flour scooped rather than spooned, opening the oven too soon, improper cooling, properly zesting a citrus fruit will all impact the success of your baking. We will learn to work with fillo dough, make pie crust, key lime pie with a graham cracker crust, cream puff dough-pate choix, pate sucre, etc. All this precision will not effect the fun.  Decorating, coloring icing and using a pastry tip and bag are a lot of fun.  And, of course, tasting.  There will be lots of baked goods to take home for sampling.

Cooking is creative. The group will design the menus for the week from a list of choices-breakfast, two lunches and two dinners.  Children are more willing to eat things that they have made.  We will sit down together and eat what we have made. We will learn about ingredients, measuring, kitchen safety, designing a balanced meal, cleaning fruits and vegetables, using yeast, kneading dough, etc.  Daily, everybody will be able to take home a lot of samples of their creations and of course, the recipes. (We held two of these camps last year, each camp made different meals, based on the interests of each group.  We made pancakes, crepes, spaghetti and meatballs, whole roast chicken, chicken francaise, cinnamon rolls, fruit tarts, scones, biscuits, cupcakes, taco bowls, quesadillas, fruit kebabs, etc.) Class will be customized to the tastes & interests of the group.

Each day campers will be inspired by artists new and old, the masters and the contemporary. And from hand painting to decoupage, we will explore design, materials, techniques, and processes that will help transform a plain piece of furniture into a true work of art! Furniture on offer this week could be: chair, stool, wooden shelf or small table. At the end of the week, students will take home a piece that is uniquely their own. Have a piece of furniture at home you would like your camper to up cycle? Please let Ms. Wendy know. Campers must be able to pick up and move that piece of furniture on their own.
